International Urban Training Center (IUTC) was established in 2007 in cooperation with Gangwon Province,Korea and UN-HABITAT as a training center for the Asia-Pacific region. With a focus on sustainable urbandevelopment, IUTC provides cutting-edge training courses and materials for policy makers and urbanplanners. Courses are designed to give participants a toolkit to develop and implement sustainableurbanization policies and programs in their communities.IUTCs core curriculum focuses on environmental restoration and strategic approaches to planning,developing and maintaining ecologically sound communities. As part of the UN-HABITAT family, the centre isdevoted to promoting civil and human rights, decent shelter, water, electricity, sanitation, health and education services to communities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Training Center and Eco-Complex

IUTCs offices and training center are located in Gangwon Provinces Nature-Environment Research Park,approximately 20 kilometers from Chuncheon. Nestled in a picturesque valley, the facility serves as aninformational gateway to Gangwons natural and eco-restoration projects. While not all trainings are held inthis facility, it hosts an interactive exhibition hall, training rooms, research labs, an auditorium, and videoroom. Gangwon Province and IUTC are in the process of building a state-of-the-art Eco-Lodge. Anenvironmentally sound building, this 2,013structure will provide 27 comfortable guest rooms, a rooftopgarden and a restaurant for training participants. Fueled by solar panels, the Eco-Complex will featurenatural lighting, an eco-garden, a greenhouse and a rainwater pond. When complete, the Eco-Complex willprovide classrooms, a lecture hall and meeting rooms in this tranquil setting. The Eco-Complex will beopened in July of 2009.

IUTCs principle partners are Gangwon Province and UN-HABITAT.Gangwon Province is famous for its numerous national parks, pristine beaches, outdoor recreation opportunities, unique food and Mt. Seoraksan, which is recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Click here for more information.
